- January: The German Workers’ Party (DAP) is founded in Munich by Anton Drexler.
- September: Adolf Hitler joins the DAP as a propaganda speaker and quickly becomes a leading member. He joins as member 55(5)!
- February: DAP is renamed the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP) — the Nazi Party.
- The party publishes the 25-point Programme outlining its ideas (anti-Weimar, anti-Semitic, nationalist, anti-communist).
- The swastika is adopted as the official party symbol, designed by Hitler himself, symbolizing Aryan identity and German nationalism.
- Hitler becomes the party’s main public speaker and organizer.
- Hitler takes full control as leader (Führer) of the Nazi Party.
- The SA (Sturmabteilung or Stormtroopers), a paramilitary group, is formed to protect Nazi meetings and intimidate opponents.
- The Nazi Party purchases their first newspaper, the "Völkischer Beobachter", which becomes their key propaganda tool.
- Nazis increase their propaganda and street violence, trying to expand influence in Bavaria and across Germany.
- Hitler attempts to ally with right-wing groups to increase power.
- January–September: Economic and political crisis worsens; hyperinflation and Ruhr occupation fuel unrest.
- November 8-9, 1923: The Beer Hall Putsch — Hitler and the Nazis try to seize power in Munich by force but fail.
- Hitler is arrested and charged with treason.
