Motives and aims of the Big Three
Terms of the Treaty of Versailles
What was the impact of the Treaty on Germany up to 1923?
Review:
Did the Big Three get everything they wanted? / Was the Treaty fair?
Thinking IS revising
- Clemenceau and Lloyd George were right to be sceptical of Wilson’s 14 Points - he knew little about European affairs.
- Had Clemenceau and Lloyd George been more open minded a genuine peace settlement could have been achieved.
- The problem with democracy is that the leaders have to try to satisfy the demands of the people - the French and British public wanted ‘revenge’.
- Germany caused the War - the Treaty of Versailles was fully justified and could even have been harsher.
